SULLIVAN;
"The laughs and the jokes are on me."
Here's looking at you, kid
Sullivan, depending on the company, could be described in completely different ways. To some, he is infectiously loud, the life of a party, witty, charming, intimidatingly confident, and funny. To others that know him more intimately, they would say he is quiet, a push-over, timid, gentle, and other endearing descriptors. He would agree, to a certain extent, that most are true if he weren't so humble (or caught up in his head). Truthfully Sullivan has a hard time pinning himself down and dwells on the fact that he doesn't know who he really is even though he knows what he wants to be. The hyena quietly stresses over a myriad of things that involve his identity and interpersonal relationships which ultimately leads him to withdraw from the crowds he surrounds himself in (he hates being in one-on-one situations, those he cannot hide himself from like he can in a group). Self-proclaimed wallflower meets wild child the hyena would say, trying to pin himself down in a tidy list which is laughably unlike him. Sullivan's depiction of himself would be a chaotic canvas of brush strokes and ugly, muddy colors that would not at all be placed so tidy in rows and rows of clean, unsullied hues. He is anger and sadness drawn tightly like a mangled ball of fishing wire, hopelessly and fruitlessly attempting to be unraveled every time that tackle box is opened like a pair of ribs, unveiling different shiny baubles of trauma: hooks designed to ensnare him deep into his grief, shame, and pain. Lures designed to sink, sink, sink down below in murky depths of despair. No, no, being loud and funny and listening to others is much better than that. Being in a group is safer than being alone. That being said, he takes things to heart and is incredibly sensitive to people's emotions and tone shifts. He often beats himself up over something if he perceives he's upset someone before they react as a defense mechanism. Sullivan has a hard time understanding certain conversational cues which can lead to awkwardly short conversations when people try to get to know him, which in turn, leads to people perceiving Sullivan as aloof, uninterested, and "too cool". Sullivan can usually make a joke out of his awkward and ditzy moments, especially when he sings along to a song and getting the lyrics wrong. He tries not to take himself too seriously in a crowd.
Sullivan doesn't open that tackle box and would even say, proudly, that he has found his peace. His sanctuary is Shotgun's garden at home, his favorite hiking trails, or among the smells of linseed oil and old paintings, and among the corridors of the museum he works at. Being a museum curator offers him silence and peace in analyzing artwork and beauty he has studied as an escape; art being the core of what binds his identity and healing. When he isn't working, he is most often reading out on the porch while his boyfriend tends to their garden, watching old films, or cooking an unhealthy meal.

"Every minute and every hour
I miss you, I miss you, I miss you more
Every stumble and each misfire
I miss you, I miss you, I miss you more
Watching through my fingers, watching through my fingers
Caught off guard by your favourite song
I'll be dancing at a funeral, dancing at a funeral
Sleeping in the clothes you love
It's such a shame we had to see them burn, shame we had to see them burn
What's gonna be left of the world if you're not in it?
What's gonna be left of the world, oh"

Relationships
Shotgun
A kindred spirit who Sullivan never expected to run into but is glad he did. The pair share a love for art, plants, and other types of media. They are on similar wavelengths and Sullivan couldn't be luckier for that. The pair are often loudly cackling together and making stupid jokes to each other that an outside listener would cringe at, but that doesn't matter, as long as they're laughing. They have a knack for bringing friends out of their shell, and making people feel important. Sullivan admires Shotgun's mastery of the art of conversation, and his ability to get to know others and get them talking about themselves. It's one of Sullivan's weak points and he hopes to be like Shotgun; he looks up to him after all. Sullivan is fiercely loyal and protective of Shotgun and is always willing to listen to Shotgun's passionate theories. Shotgun is the most supportive, friendly, and gentle being he has ever met and had the fortune of dating, and he wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. They are happy.
